Take Action
The PERMIT Act Threatens the Clean Water Act

Dear John,
As lawmakers return to Capitol Hill, one of the first bills they may take up is the PERMIT Act (H.R. 3898) . This dangerous legislation would greatly weaken the Clean Water Act, the landmark law that has safeguarded America’s rivers, lakes, wetlands, and drinking water for more than 50 years.
Tell your House Representative to vote NO on the PERMIT Act (H.R. 3898) before it reaches the House floor for a vote. [[link removed]]

The PERMIT Act makes it easier for polluters to contaminate our water by:
* Limiting the rights of states and tribes to protect their own waters against damaging federal projects
* Shielding polluters from accountability for putting undisclosed toxins in our waters
* Opening the door to unchecked pollution of rivers, lakes, and drinking water sources
The Clean Water Act was built on bipartisan support and ensures science and public safety come first when setting pollution limits. The PERMIT Act would reverse that legacy, allowing industry profits to outweigh community health, clean drinking water, and environmental protections.
It would also hand top officials at the Environmental Protection Agency and the Army Corps of Engineers sweeping authority to exclude waters from protection at their discretion. That means vital rivers, wetlands, and lakes could lose safeguards overnight , putting drinking water and wildlife habitat at risk.
Across the country, communities are already grappling with PFAS toxic forever chemicals, harmful algae outbreaks, and sewage pollution. Weakening protections now would only make these problems worse and leave families more vulnerable.

Clean water is not a partisan issue. More than 80% of Americans agree clean and safe water should be protected . Congress should protect our water, not put it at greater risk.
