The PERMIT Act makes it easier for polluters to contaminate our water by:

The Clean Water Act was built on bipartisan support and ensures science and public safety come first when setting pollution limits. The PERMIT Act would reverse that legacy, allowing industry profits to outweigh community health, clean drinking water, and environmental protections.
It would also hand top officials at the Environmental Protection Agency and the Army Corps of Engineers sweeping authority to exclude waters from protection at their discretion. That means vital rivers, wetlands, and lakes could lose safeguards overnight, putting drinking water and wildlife habitat at risk.
Across the country, communities are already grappling with PFAS toxic forever chemicals, harmful algae outbreaks, and sewage pollution. Weakening protections now would only make these problems worse and leave families more vulnerable.
