Rewiring for Resilience: How to Promote Wellness in Times of Stress

Our reactions in times of stress can have harmful effects on our health and well-being. Conversely, some behaviors in stressful times can actually strengthen our resilience and enhance our health. Join psychiatrist Kristen Schmidt, MD, and clinical psychologist Patsy Manzanares, PsyD, to take a closer look at how the brain and body react to stress and learn behavioral techniques your clients can use to build greater resilience and enhance wellness.

Objectives
Explain how stress affects the body and brain
Distinguish among different stress reactions that can have harmful or healthful effects
Describe specific behavioral techniques that foster resilience and encourage a sense of safety

A board-certified addiction psychiatrist, Dr. Schmidt works in both residential and outpatient treatment settings to assist patients in their recovery.

Hazelden Betty Ford
A post-doctoral resident, Patsy Manzanares, PsyD, provides mental health care for patients in detox. She has worked with patients in residential and outpatient treatment settings, including a federal prison.
