This week, Texas Democratic lawmaker Nicole Collier made headlines for refusing to bow to Republican intimidation.
Rep. Collier—a seven-term legislator and former Chair of the Texas Legislative Black Caucus—was told she could not leave the state Capitol without a police escort. She spent the night on the House floor, standing firm against GOP efforts to silence her voice and ram through gerrymandered maps designed to keep Republicans in power.
“I refuse to comply with this unreasonable, un-American and unnecessary request,” she said.
