John,
Right now, a crucial rulemaking process to protect streams in Washington forests is taking place.
The Forest Practices Board is considering long-overdue protection for 19,000+ miles of streams known as Type Np streams: These headwater streams flow into waterways that are crucial to salmon and other species. Protecting them protects everything below: Salmon, invertebrates, wetlands, orca, and communities that depend on them.
But this rule, which would require 75-foot forest buffers along streams, is under serious threat. At the last three hearings, the timber industry turned out to defend their anti-environmental interests and weaken the rule. We must fight back. The window to act is closing.
Tell the Forest Practices Board to follow the science, protect our headwater streams, uphold Tribal treaty rights, and give salmon and forests a fighting chance. [[link removed]]
