The Forest Practices Board is considering long-overdue protection for 19,000+ miles of streams known as Type Np streams: These headwater streams flow into waterways that are crucial to salmon and other species. Protecting them protects everything below: Salmon, invertebrates, wetlands, orca, and communities that depend on them. But this rule, which would require 75-foot forest buffers along streams, is under serious threat. At the last three hearings, the timber industry turned out to defend their anti-environmental interests and weaken the rule. We must fight back. The window to act is closing.
