In July the Pennsylvania House of Representatives advanced a crucial bill for increasing transparency at PJM, PA’s regional energy grid operator, House Bill 1599. This bill aims to ensure that decisions about our energy future are made openly and in the public interest.

Now that this legislation has moved to the Senate, we need your help to keep the momentum going. Urge your state senator to support this vital legislation and advocate for transparency in the policies that affect our electric bills: [link removed]

PJM's decisions impact our electric bills, economy, and environment. Yet, in recent years, PJM has struggled to integrate new renewable energy projects, slowing our transition to clean energy and driving up electricity costs for consumers.

One key challenge for transparency is that many voting members of PJM include fossil fuel-dependent generators and utility companies. That means that, when votes are cast behind closed doors, PJM makes decisions that prioritize corporate interests over the public good.

Fortunately, the Pennsylvania House recently passed legislation requiring transparency with bipartisan support. HB 1599 requires PJM members to publicly record their votes and explain how each decision serves the public interest.

This is a HUGE win for accountability and smart energy policy.

But we're not done yet.
