Dear Health Advocates,
The House adjourned early for their August recess last week, and the Senate will follow suit by end of this week. While members of Congress are in their districts over the next month it's our job (and yours) to remind them just how harmful their votes to cut health care in HR 1 are.
To help in your advocacy and in holding your members accountable, please see our new fact sheet [[link removed]] and insights blog [[link removed]] laying out the implementation timeline for HR 1 and how you can be better prepared for the impacts of this bill. You can find other recent resources below, and use our email writing form [[link removed]] to hold your members accountable or thank them for voting against HR 1.
In addition, since the reconciliation bill did not include an extension of the ACA's enhanced premium tax credits, we urge you to use this email writing form [[link removed]] to encourage your members to extend these enhanced tax credits before the end of the year and keep premiums lower for EVERYONE.
We also invite you to join Families USA, Community Catalyst, CBPP, and NHeLP on Friday, August 1 at 1 p.m. ET to discuss priority next steps for health advocacy, with a focus on August recess. During the call we’ll share ways to continue accountability efforts and advocate for the extension of the enhanced premium tax credits, without which costs in the marketplace will skyrocket next year. Register here [[link removed]] .
We have additional ways to engage this week, including:
* THIS WEEK! Medicaid Convening on Medical Debt * Please join Community Catalyst and Families USA for the next session in our virtual Medicaid convening series, taking place on Thursday, July 31, from 12:30 PM EST - 2:00 PM EST. This session will focus on how proposed Medicaid cuts are fueling the growing medical debt crisis in the United States. We’ll explore state-level strategies to address potential Medicaid shortfalls that threaten to deepen existing health inequities and economic injustice. Register here [[link removed]] .
* Defending Medicaid Landing Page * Even though the bill is law, Families USA will leave up its Defending Medicaid landing page [[link removed]] . You can find district fact sheets, state-specific resources, and other resources we developed for the fight to protect Medicaid.
