[link removed] , publisher Robert Aitken petitioned Congress to approve his English-language Bible. Congress appointed a committee comprised of
[link removed] Declaration signers Thomas McKean and John Witherspoon to review his Bible. After the report
[link removed] from the committee, Congress then gave Aitken a ringing endorsement
[link removed] of his Bible which he included in his 1782 printing of what would become known as the Aitken Bible.

Isaac Watts (1674-1748) is known as the “Father of English Hymnody” and in addition to well-known hymns like Joy to the World and At the Cross, he also set the entire book of Psalms to music. Watts' Hymnal played a significant role in the American War for Independence and in early American education.
