When Jackie arrived at our Los Angeles sanctuary​ as a young cow​, she​ already​ carried the weight of profound loss.


Just days earlier, she had given birth on the floor of a Utah slaughterhouse. Sadly, her baby, John, ​was​ gravely ill​. Despite us providing veterinary care during transport​, he passed away ​before he could begin a new life at Farm​ ​Sanctuary.


Jackie arrived ​grieving​ and afraid, but our loving bovine family gave her a warm welcome. She soon grew close to Dixon, an orphaned calf, and their bond helped Jackie begin to heal​. As we’ve seen time and time again, sanctuary turned loss into love​​.
