Responding to the climate crisis
------------------------------------------------------------
Release of the 2018 annual report

The world is facing unprecedented and extremely complex sustainability challenges – from keeping global warming to within 1.5 degrees and ensuring the sustainability of food and value chains. Alongside this, there’s an urgent need to build the capacity for individuals and organisations to think systemically, and as the appetite to act on the climate crisis builds, we need to ensure interventions have scale and pace.

We all have a role to play in changing our current systems and can no longer afford false starts. Our latest Annual Report celebrates examples of where we’ve worked with businesses, civil society organisations and many more to determine truly systemic responses to the climate crisis.

** This month on the Futures Centre
------------------------------------------------------------
This month, the Futures Centre has been inviting comment from young people across the world as part of a partnership with the YMCA to find out what empowerment means today, to build tomorrow’s thriving future communities.

This culminated in a series of workshops in London, where over 500 people aged 15-60+ explored future scenarios to address key challenges, from climate change to social cohesion in contexts of high migration and extreme demographics.

** Helping shape the future of our cities
------------------------------------------------------------

By 2040, there will be an extra two billion people living in cities globally. Assuming current transport models are scaled, this will mean another 500 million private vehicles on the roads. Already, vehicle emissions are responsible for 11% of global warming and while the need to create a more sustainable mobility system is undeniable, a complex, ever-changing regulatory environment makes it difficult for key private and public sector players to understand how and where to focus efforts.

That’s why we’ve partnered with the Transit Center on MOVING US, a unique project set to help shape the future of cities in the U.S.

** Forget ticking boxes, the first step in saving the world is all about mindset change
------------------------------------------------------------

Sally Uren's final piece in an eight-part series with edie calls for a complete mindset shift for sustainability goals.

When edie asked Forum for the Future to write a series of “practical advice” articles around our Future of Sustainability 2019 report, we leapt at the chance.

In the report we talk of seven interconnected megatrends that we expect to play a very significant role in shaping the future. Through this blog series we have distilled our insights from the research into specific actions for business leaders to drive meaningful change. With the series drawing to a close, I hope regular readers will by now better understand where your business sits in relation to each megatrend – both in terms of your impact on them, and vice versa – and have at your disposal practical ideas for taking direct action.
