During BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re honoring the experiences of LGBTQ+ young people of color—and digging deeper into what real support looks like.

Our recent research brief ([link removed](i.e.e-newsletter)&utm_source=emailsegment-wholefile1&utm_campaign=generaleffort) explores how friend support, family support, and community acceptance shape mental health and suicide risk for trans and nonbinary (TGNB) young people of color.

What we found isn’t surprising—but it’s powerful: TGNB young people of color who had high levels of family support had a 47% lower odds of attempting suicide in the past year than those with low to moderate levels of family support.

This BIPOC Mental Health Month, we’re not only sharing data—we’re centering stories. In Learn with Love ([link removed]) : Trey and Gloria, we follow Trey, a Black trans young woman, and her mom, Gloria, through their journey of understanding, faith, and growth. It’s a moving reminder that care can take time—but it’s always worth it.

Support isn’t a single moment—it’s a commitment. And this month is about celebrating every form of that care, especially for the BIPOC LGBTQ+ young people who deserve it most.

Support from individuals like you enables The Trevor Project to continue our work to end LGBTQ+ youth suicide through our crisis services as well as the development of resources and guides like these to promote education and allyship.
