The Great Lakes are a national treasure. They supply drinking water to over 40 million people across the U.S. and Canada and hold 84 percent of North America's surface freshwater. But oil pipelines like Enbridge's Line 5 threaten our environment, economy, and climate.
Fortunately, Michigan Governor Whitmer can act to stop the expansion of Line 5! If enough people across the nation speak up, we can urge her to protect the Great Lakes. Will you call on Governor Whitmer to act before it's too late? [link removed]

Dear Friend,
Oil giant Enbridge wants to expand its leak-prone Line 5 pipeline, which already pollutes the equivalent of 10 coal fired power plants a year.1
In June, the Trump administration's Army Corps of Engineers announced that it will fast-track this project through the Straits of Mackinac without sufficient environmental review.
Line 5 has a dangerous history of leaks and spills. Enbridge, the company behind it, is responsible for one of the worst inland oil disasters in U.S. history.2 If a spill happened in the Straits of Mackinac, it would be catastrophic -- not just for Michigan, but for the entire region.
The Great Lakes are essential and oil pipelines like Line 5 threaten their future.
With our federal agencies being instructed to fast track fossil fuel build out, the state of Michigan is a last line of defense against the pipeline. Fortunately, Governor Whitmer can deny a crucial state-level water permit for Enbridge's proposed Line 5 tunnel, which would stop the expansion of this pipeline.
đŸ‘‰ Tell Governor Whitmer: Reject the Line 5 tunnel permit. Protect our water, climate, and future.

Expanding this pipeline only helps greedy oil and gas executives pad their pockets. Shutting down Line 5 would have little to no effect on gas prices in the region, and it could actually create more long-term jobs than building the tunnel.
Despite opening a public comment period, we know the Trump admin will ignore the clear interest of our families in favor of padding the pockets of the corporate polluters who helped get him elected.
That's why it's so important that Governor Whitmer hears from people across the nation that we are all counting on her to protect the Great Lakes and our climate.
Now is our last chance to stop a new dirty dangerous tunnel through the heart of the Great Lakes. Will you call on Governor Whitmer to stop Line 5 before it's too late?
