Dear Friend,
Oil giant Enbridge wants to expand its leak-prone Line 5 pipeline, which already pollutes the equivalent of 10 coal fired power plants a year.1
In June, the Trump administration's Army Corps of Engineers announced that it will fast-track this project through the Straits of Mackinac without sufficient environmental review.
Line 5 has a dangerous history of leaks and spills. Enbridge, the company behind it, is responsible for one of the worst inland oil disasters in U.S. history.2 If a spill happened in the Straits of Mackinac, it would be catastrophic -- not just for Michigan, but for the entire region.
The Great Lakes are essential and oil pipelines like Line 5 threaten their future.
With our federal agencies being instructed to fast track fossil fuel build out, the state of Michigan is a last line of defense against the pipeline. Fortunately, Governor Whitmer can deny a crucial state-level water permit for Enbridge's proposed Line 5 tunnel, which would stop the expansion of this pipeline.
đŸ‘‰ Tell Governor Whitmer: Reject the Line 5 tunnel permit. Protect our water, climate, and future. |
