Hey John,

The internet and social media are where so many LGBTQ+ young people find their people. It’s where you discover language and resources to support your journey of self-exploration, where you build community and connect with peers, and where you find tools and information to help advocate for the causes you care about.

But it’s also where a lot of noise lives. The trolls. The headlines. The endless scroll of content that can make it feel like your identity is always up for debate.

Stepping away — for a week, a day, even just an hour — can have a huge impact on your overall mental health. Studies show a short digital detox has real benefits: improved sleep, reduced anxiety and stress, and better emotional well-being.

That’s why this week, we’re logging off. Not forever. Just long enough to take a beat on the heels of Pride Month. We’d love it if you could join us — maybe for the whole week, maybe for just a day.

We call it the Queer Week of Rest, a digital pause to remind ourselves (and you) that rest is resistance, and boundaries are a gift you give yourself. We’ll be back on July 14, ready to continue our work in support of LGBTQ+ youth around the globe. And of course, while we’re offline, our resources are still here — @itgetsbetter on all social platforms, at [[link removed]], and in our library of videos and stories on YouTube.

And if you need something to ground you while you’re offline, here are just a few ideas that don’t involve doomscrolling:

Start a zine, sketchbook, or journal.

Write a letter to your younger self (you can burn it, save it, or read it to a friend)

Take a walk with no destination.

Bake something (bonus points for rainbow sprinkles)

Craft, play with legos, build something with your hands.

Read a book by a queer author.

Create a playlist filled with queer artists

However you spend this week, know this: You’re not missing out. You’re recharging. And you deserve that.
