*What healthcare facilities and e-cigarette retailers
need to know about Michigan's
new hazardous waste regulations*
On April 29, 2025, amendments to the administrative rules promulgated under Part 111, Hazardous Waste Management, of Michigan’s Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, 1994 PA 451, as amended (Part 111), were filed with the Michigan Department of State, Office of the Great Seal. The amended rules became effective on May 5, 2025. They are found in Part 111 [ [link removed] ], Rules 824 through 833, and in the corresponding federal regulations published in the Federal Register on February 22, 2019 [ [link removed] ].
The new rules [ [link removed] ] are specific to:
* Healthcare facilities generating hazardous waste pharmaceuticals (HWP).
* Electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDs) retailers generating unwanted ENDS.
Existing facilities subject to the new rules are required to notify [ [link removed] ] the Michigan Department of Energy, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) of the facility's regulatory status by July 4, 2025, using the EQP 5150 Form [ [link removed] ]. EGLE will accept all notifications provided by affected facilities.
Healthcare facilities and ENDS retailers are encouraged to take advantage of the new/revised guidance shared below on the rule changes [ [link removed] ], and to join EGLE for the upcoming August 21st webinar. *Anyone who registers for the free webinar will*:
* get notification the recording when it is available,
