Dear Health Advocates,
The Senate, with the tie-breaking vote from JD Vance, just passed the largest cuts to Medicaid EVER in the budget reconciliation bill. Over the weekend, the Senate passed a motion to proceed to debate and Republicans have been working behind closed doors to secure the 50 member votes they need to pass this bill back to the House. The Senate's vote-a-rama was historic, with 45 consecutive votes. Now that it has passed, we expect House Republicans to move quickly to vote on the Senate's updates to the bill on Wednesday or Thursday.
Community Catalyst, Families USA, NHeLP, and the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities invite you to a July Medicaid Defense Updates and Strategy Call TODAY , Tuesday, July 1 from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM ET . On this call we'll walk through the latest intel and updates around the health-related provisions of the reconciliation package, its impact, and strategies for next steps. Register here [[link removed]] .
After the new provisions were laid out, Families USA released a newly updated section by section breakdown [[link removed]] and bill summary [[link removed]] of the budget reconciliation bill .
Finally, health, faith and anti-hunger advocates across the country are joining together for a relay fast to demonstrate the harmful impacts of the reconciliation bill and its cuts to Medicaid and SNAP. Cohorts are fasting for 24 hours before passing it to the next cohort until Congress goes on break. Join and share the fast at ProtestFast.org [[link removed]] and use the #EmptyPlatesProtest. This fasting protest will go on until Congress' July 4 recess.
