Email from Rep. Palmer Dear Friend, While this is a recap of our activities in June, I thought it would be good to begin with a reminder that just four days after the end of the month we will celebrate 249 years of our nation’s independence. Whether you choose to celebrate Independence Day by grilling out with neighbors, watching fireworks, or attending a baseball game, I hope you take time to reflect on the core ideas and beliefs upon which our nation was founded. This year, we are celebrating much more than 249 years of our country. We are celebrating 249 years of the United States being a beacon of religious freedom and free speech in the world, and 249 years of being a nation that stands for liberty and justice for all. Next year will be an even larger celebration as we prepare to celebrate America’s semiquincentennial. As a proud member of the America250 Congressional Caucus, I would like to encourage you to visit the America250 website here to learn more about how you can get involved and celebrate 250 years of our great nation. I invite you to read below to learn more about the work my staff and I are doing on your behalf. Sincerely, Gary Palmer Holding Sanctuary State Governors Accountable Sanctuary states like Minnesota, Illinois, and New York are harboring dangerous individuals that harm American citizens. Sanctuary policies are threats to our national security, and we must hold governors of sanctuary states accountable. Earlier this month, I participated in an Oversight and Government Responsibility Committee hearing on this topic. You can watch my questioning of sanctuary state governors here or by clicking the video below. America Stands with Israel I fully support President Trump's decision to destroy Iran's nuclear facilities. This decision was forced upon us by the refusal of the Iranian leadership to accept the reality that the U.S. would never allow them to have a nuclear weapon. With this action, American resolve to eliminate any and all threats against our country and our allies was put on full display. While I am thankful that President Trump was able to broker a ceasefire agreement with Israel and Iran, I have little confidence that Iran’s radical leadership is ready to give up their ambitions to have a nuclear weapon. President Trump has made it unmistakably clear that the United States stands ready to defend our assets and our allies against any threat from Iran or its proxies. Read my press release here. Yellowhammer: Alabama Republicans praise Trump's decision to strike Iran: 'Peace through strength works' CBS42: Alabama leaders react to U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear sites Prioritizing Fiscal Responsibility The tax dollars of hard-working Americans should not be going towards transgender services in Nepal, LGBTQI+ programs in Uganda, Iraqi Sesame Street, or resources to teach young children how to make environmentally friendly ‘reproductive health’ decisions. These are just a few examples of the wasteful government spending identified in the rescissions package we voted on earlier this month. For the sake of the future of our nation, we must get our fiscal house in order and eliminate the waste, fraud, and abuse happening within our government. I voted for The Rescissions Act of 2025 because it takes a great step in this direction by cutting $9.4 billion in spending and prioritizing the American people instead of radical agendas. China controls over 94% of refined rare earth elements making the United States and all other nations almost totally reliant on them. Refined rare elements are essential for a huge array of products in our economy and for our military weapons systems. This is why I have made it one of my top priorities to secure our own domestic ability to process and refine these resources and eliminate our reliance on China. Thank you to 1819 News for having me on their podcast to discuss this important issue. You can hear me discuss this issue more in-depth, as well as other issues I am working on in Congress, by listening to the full podcast here or by clicking the video below. Putting an End to Illegal Robocalls In April 2025, it is estimated that nearly 2,000 robocalls were placed to U.S. consumers every second. Illegal robocalls and texts have been harassing Americans and preying on senior citizens for far too long. This month, I hosted a hearing in the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee on the Energy and Commerce Committee on this issue. Watch my opening statement here or by clicking the video below. Palmer with the People University of Alabama System’s Capitol Scholars This month, I was able to give a capitol tour to the students in the University of Alabama system’s Capitol Scholars Program. These students are passionate about public service and making a difference. I’m looking forward to seeing how they impact Alabama in the future! Dustin Connell Visits D.C. I enjoyed welcoming professional angler and three-time REDCREST champion Dustin Connell to Washington, D.C., as he prepared for the Zenni Stage 6. Dustin has won back-to-back REDCREST championships. He is a Clanton native who is making Alabama proud! Celebrating 250 Years of the U.S. Army I was honored to speak at the U.S. Army’s 250th birthday celebration at American Village in Montevallo. Thank you to all who have served in the Army and our other military branches, and those currently on the front lines defending our freedoms. The Alabama Prayer Breakfast I had the opportunity to participate in the Alabama delegation prayer breakfast earlier this month. As times are hectic and D.C. is ever changing, it is important to set time aside to pray for our nation. Thank you to Senator Tommy Tuberville for bringing the delegation together and organizing this event. Pro-Family Legislative Network Dinner I was honored to speak at the Pro-Family Legislative Network Dinner in D.C. this month with legislators from 15 states. These are critical times in our nation’s history, and I’m thankful for these leaders championing pro-family issues at the state level. Art Competition Winner Visits D.C. Congratulations to Meg Goodsell from Evangel Classical Christian School for winning this year’s Congressional Art Competition for Alabama’s Sixth District! She had the opportunity to visit D.C. earlier this month to be recognized for this accomplishment and see her artwork on display in the Capitol.
