It’s not quite the Lake Michigan of her childhood, but Hanna Theile has found familiar waters (and some precious cool during a heat wave) in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County’s public pools ([link removed]) .

Available to residents at a low cost, those 20 pools offer a place of joy and belonging to people from all walks of life — kids taking their first lessons, after-work lap swimmers, seniors doing aerobics, Theile writes in an essay ([link removed]) .
