------------------------------------------------------------

I spent the last week teaching high school students in a summer writing program, something I have done since I was barely older than a teenager myself. Though working with young writers is extremely rewarding, it’s also intense. It’s important to pace yourself—something I have never been great at—and by the end of the first day, I was nursing a headache. I knew I had to rest to avoid a flare-up of the migraines that have followed me since a severe case of COVID several years ago. I got better, but better is a process.

This week at the Climate Justice desk, we are going down the long road to recovery. First, ongoing wildfire recovery in Maui illustrates the broader challenges ([link removed]) communities face when disasters collide with climate change, colonization, and economic recovery. Next, while we realize that overconsumption is a contributing factor to the climate crisis, social media trends ([link removed]) still promote it. Then, how messaging that aligns values ([link removed]) across the ideological and political spectrum makes progress possible for equitable climate and health solutions. Finally, Pride Month ([link removed]) concludes with a collection of stories NPQ has published to
uplift LGBTQ+ voices and powerful contributions to history, society, and culture worldwide.
