**As we rush to get backpacks ready for our Operation Backpack® drive, summer
heat and hardships are rising.** And your gift will help us respond to real-
time needs, too—from water, to cooling shelters—for families struggling
without the basics.

Just a quick note—because I can’t stop thinking about the story of a mom at
one of our VOA Operation Backpack® events.

She stood quietly, her shy little grade schooler holding her hand tightly.
When we handed Mom a filled backpack, she smiled with relief.ne mom even found
herself in tears **—she never expected so much emotion over a backpack. **

**Right now, our VOA teams are filling backpacks across the country** —and
also providing food, housing support and a helping hand to families struggling
through the summer.
