Have you heard the news? Our comrades in New York City DSA have just made history with their win in the NYC mayoral democratic primary last night. Over 400,000 working class New Yorkers voted for DSA member Zohran Mamdani, saying “Enough!” to the ruling class, to billionaires, and to the status quo presented by the Democratic establishment. Voters across the five boroughs said that not only is a better world possible, it is inevitable!

Zohran Mamdani’s campaign shows there is a new type of politics emerging that squarely names the real root of the affordability crisis in our cities: capitalism. Zohran offers a hopeful alternative and a challenge to the same-old same-old we’ve been sold forever by Democrats, an alternative we can achieve through mass politics.

This win is not just a testament to Zohran’s vision and charisma, but also to the apparatus that NYC-DSA has built over the last nearly 10 years. Zohran Mamdani didn’t win by accident or alone – as a member of DSA, his campaign had a grassroots organization of over 80,000 socialists powering his landslide victory. Campaigns like this do not materialize overnight, that’s why now is the time to get involved and join the largest socialist organization in the United States in decades, the Democratic Socialists of America.

Campaigns like Zohran’s have demonstrated that people are hungry for an alternative to the same-old politics being shoved down our throats and that they’re ready to demand more for themselves. Through grassroots, mass-movement organizing we can grow DSA to be an absolute powerhouse, capable of running hundreds of Zohrans across the country, including right here in Metro Detroit.
