THE FORUM DAILY

As migrant families shared testimonies on harsh conditions in Texas detention facilities, a group of advocacy organizations filed a lawsuit to prevent the federal government from ending a policy that ensures migrant children are kept in safe and sanitary environments, reports Valerie Gonzalez of the Associated Press [link removed].

The policy, known as the Flores Settlement Agreement, could challenge provisions in the administration's reconciliation bill since it aims to make detention time indefinite, Gonzales notes.

“At a time when Congress is considering funding the indefinite detention of children and families, defending the Flores Settlement is more urgent than ever,” said Mishan Wroe, a senior immigration attorney at the National Center for Youth Law in a statement.

According to court documents, nearly 90 migrant families in detention expressed concerns, most of them over a lack of water and access to medical attention for their young children.

Separately, Sacha Pfeiffer of NPR [link removed] offers a recap on the viability of the government's plan to send migrants to Guantánamo Bay and highlights the criticisms it has drawn.
