THE FORUM DAILY

As migrant families shared testimonies on harsh conditions in Texas detention facilities, a group of advocacy organizations filed a lawsuit to prevent the federal government from ending a policy that ensures migrant children are kept in safe and sanitary environments, reports Valerie Gonzalez of the Associated Press.

The policy, known as the Flores Settlement Agreement, could challenge provisions in the administration's reconciliation bill since it aims to make detention time indefinite, Gonzales notes.

“At a time when Congress is considering funding the indefinite detention of children and families, defending the Flores Settlement is more urgent than ever,” said Mishan Wroe, a senior immigration attorney at the National Center for Youth Law in a statement.

According to court documents, nearly 90 migrant families in detention expressed concerns, most of them over a lack of water and access to medical attention for their young children.

Separately, Sacha Pfeiffer of NPR offers a recap on the viability of the government's plan to send migrants to Guantánamo Bay and highlights the criticisms it has drawn.
