Liberal Democrats Our Manifesto, one year on
Dear John,
It has been a year since we launched our manifesto for the General Election -
For A Fair Deal <[link removed]>.
The former Conservative Government broke our public services and shattered
public trust in our politics. Our manifesto set out our solutions - our path to
delivering a fair deal for communities across the United Kingdom.
Thanks to our successful campaign - one year on, our incredible 72 MPs are
making a real difference.
Due to Liberal Democrat pressure, a number of our manifesto commitments and
other policies have already become a reality.
Here’s some of what we’ve achieved since the election… 🔽
🍎 Free school meals - To help tackle child poverty, we’ve long campaigned for
an extension of free school meals. This June, the Government finally announced
that any child in England whose parents receive Universal Credit will be
eligible from next year <[link removed]>.
☀️ Solar panels on all new-build homes - This month, the Government accepted
the provisions of Max Wilkinson MP’s‘Sunshine Bill’
<[link removed]> to install solar power on every
new-build home to help tackle the climate crisis and lower bills.
✈️ Youth Mobility Scheme - Allowing young people to work and travel across
Europe would help them gain valuable life experiences and skills. This May, the
Government finallyagreed to work towards a version of this
<[link removed]>
.
⚖️ Protecting victims of domestic abuse and sexual offences - Last month, the
Government accepted Josh Babarinde MP’s call toformally recognise domestic
abuse crimes in law
<[link removed]>
, to better protect victims. They also agreed to makecourt transcripts free for
victims of rape and sexual violence
<[link removed]>
, following Sarah Olney MP’s long campaign on behalf of one of her constituents.
🐶 Ending puppy smuggling - Danny Chambers MP’s Animal Welfare Bill
<[link removed]> is set to become law after receiving
cross-party support. The Bill will close the loophole through which mutilated
pets are imported into the UK under the guise of travelling with their owners.
These Liberal Democrat victories show the difference we can make to help build
a fairer, safer, and more prosperous country.
But, John, while we celebrate what we’ve achieved, there’s so much more work
to do.
We must keep up the pressure on the Government, who have yet to set out a
detailed plan for their youth mobility scheme, and who could go much further on
free school meals by ensuring all eligible children are auto-enrolled, so no
child misses out.
And we’re campaigning on so much more, from fixing the social care crisis to
ending the scandal of sewage dumping.
So if you support our policies, such as those outlined above, will you help us
achieve even more by joining our party?
With your help, we can elect more Liberal Democrats across the country who
will campaign every day for a fair deal.
