John,
This morning, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a devastating decision in U.S. v. Skrmetti , upholding Tennessee's harmful ban on gender-affirming hormone therapy for transgender youth. Let’s be clear: gender-affirming care is still legal in Virginia.
Equality Virginia, in collaboration with our partners, will be hosting a Skrmetti Decision Town Hall on Friday, June 20th, at 12:00 PM ET to examine this decision and what it means for trans and non-binary Virginians and their families. You’ll hear from advocates, patients, providers and elected officials and more.

This decision is heartbreaking and will not only endanger lives in Tennessee but access to care across the country. Health care bans threaten people’s well-being, the safety of our communities, and the ability of every family to determine what’s best for them. Families and doctors deserve trust, respect, and privacy as they make medical decisions, free from political and legislative interference.
The Supreme Court has failed to protect families’ freedoms and allowed politicians’ targeting of transgender youth’s healthcare needs to stand. This is a painful setback, but the Court left us with a tool to fight back against the political extremists targeting transgender people’s safety and dignity: Virginia’s 2025 election.
Today's ruling only heightens the importance of our work to cultivate an informed and engaged electorate; advocate for providers, families, and individuals here in Virginia; and our work to change the narrative around our rights and access to care.

Trans and non-binary Virginians and their families need your solidarity now more than ever. You’ve stood with them before, so you know exactly what’s at stake here. In moments like this, your action means more than ever.
We know this decision is scary, enraging, and heartbreaking. But we also know this: we’ve fought back before and won. Together, we’ll do it again.
With Care,
Equality Virginia
