John,
The time for change is now.
Across the country, Americans are using their First Amendment rights to march, protest, and call for an end to the systemic racism and injustice that has haunted our nation from its founding.
For far too long, our criminal justice system has systematically discriminated against Black Americans. We've allowed abuse by police to go unchecked and must address it immediately.
That's why I am supporting legislation introduced by the Congressional Black Caucus called the Justice in Policing Act of 2020 -- it's a critical first step to delivering long-overdue change in our policing justice system.
This bill will begin to fundamentally alter the ways our communities are policed. Among the bill's provisions are:
-Creating a national registry of police misconduct
-Banning chokeholds and changing the use of force standard for federal officers
-Establishing lynching as a federal hate crime
-Changing the qualified immunity doctrine preventing people from recovering damages when police violate their rights
I know that the Justice in Policing Act is a key step to addressing the systemic racism of our justice system -- that's why I'm supporting it. I want to know if you support the act, too. Take our quick survey below to let us know.

I'm in Congress to fight for you, so I am always grateful to hear your views on subjects that matter. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
I hope we are at a turning point in our history. Millions of Americans are rising up to show us that we can no longer exist in a country where Black people are not considered equal. Now, Congress must act to ensure that the law reflects and empowers the change we demand.
We must pass the Justice in Policing Act. Together, we can finally bring an end to systemic racism and fight for a better future for our nation.
Yours,
Suzan
