This month has been a whirlwind in the fight to protect the Boundary Waters — and we’ve secured some major victories. Thanks to intense advocacy in Washington, D.C., dangerous anti-Wilderness language was removed from the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill,” which would have opened the door to toxic copper mining in the watershed of America’s most visited Wilderness.
In Minnesota , the State legislative session just wrapped, and our team was on defense against multiple anti-Boundary Waters bills that would have weakened critical environmental protections. And we held the line.
But make no mistake — the fight is far from over. In fact just as we were celebrating these wins, late yesterday Secretaries of Agriculture and Interior announced via a callous and inaccurate Tweet that they will be overturning the hard won 20-year mining ban in the watershed of the Boundary Waters. They claim to have consulted with the people of Minnesota about the Boundary Waters when they clearly have not.
