Dear John,
The momentum just keeps building. Last week, the APPG for Fair Elections hit a brilliant line-up of events platforming our key asks: launching a National Commission on Electoral Reform (NCER), pushing to patch up our outdated campaign finance laws, and confronting how social media platforms profit from disinformation.
This comes hot on the heels of the APPG becoming the largest issue-focused group of its kind in Parliament, a testament to the appetite for change.
We’re also excited to announce that the APPG will be hosting an event at this summer’s Byline Festival ([link removed]) . There, you’ll hear directly from MPs and campaigners working to build a democracy fit for our time — and learn how you can help repair our broken political system.
It’s clear: there is overwhelming demand for change in Britain today.
Real, systemic reform — not just tinkering at the edges, but at the very foundations of our democracy. People are fed up with tactical voting, dark money, dodgy data analytics, and fossil fuel lobbyists whispering in politicians’ ears. The consensus is undeniable: Britain wants a political system that finally gives ordinary people a voice.
Undoing Polarisation
The APPG for Fair Elections co-hosted a session at SXSW London about declining trust in politics and how we build a democracy that works for everyone. Hint: PR, campaign finance reform, and rules to regulate big tech!

The APPG is driving that change in Parliament, building cross-party alliances and working hand-in-hand with civil society. With scores of MPs already on board, the momentum is growing. We knew the government wouldn’t roll over without a fight, but pressure is building — and it won’t be long before it’s irresistible.
But for real change, we can’t just win the argument inside Parliament — we need to continue building up the movement outside it too. That means showing this isn’t a niche policy debate but a manifestation of the public’s growing frustration — and demand — for a democracy that delivers fair, functional outcomes.
We’re expanding our reach across social media, informing voters through platforms like Substack (check out our latest piece below), and drawing more and more people into Open Britain’s campaign for a resilient, representative democracy.

While Reform and Trump flail to keep their coalitions together, we’re laying the foundations for a system built to last — one based on public consultation, transparency, and above all, accountability.
Democracy was always meant to be about ordinary people. We’re closer than ever to making it that way – but we can’t do it without your support.
All the best,
Mark
