I write to you today tired, bleary-eyed, but no less determined.
Early this morning, House Republicans passed President Trump's big, ugly bill while most of the country slept. They started debating it yesterday at 1 a.m. -- literally under the cloak of darkness.
That's because they don't want their constituents to know that it will:
* Raise the deficit by $3 trillion
* Cut taxes for the rich, but increase costs for middle and lower-income families
* Strip healthcare from nearly 14 million Americans
* Jeopardize food security for the 42 million Americans who rely on SNAP
For more than 30 hours, I was in the fight -- taking to the House floor at 4 a.m. to urge my colleagues to vote against this morally bankrupt bill. I waited more than 12 hours to offer one of 520 Democratic amendments to block the worst of its damange.
And we're not giving up. The Senate still has to pass it. And if the Senate makes changes, it will come back to the House again. We will be ready.
