Herbert,
We’re already hearing from Republican lawmakers who regret supporting the “big beautiful” budget they passed last week. That’s what happens when you fast-track a huge bill in the middle of the night.
They admit they missed some of the provision in the bill’s 1,116 pages – and they’re even getting blowback from Elon Musk for its $3 trillion price tag.
Now, they’re doing full damage control.
That includes a new effort to claw back $9.4 billion already appropriated by Congress. This time, they’re going after critical foreign aid and resources for more than 1,500 local public TV and radio stations. Next time it could be funding for cancer research.
I will not vote to cancel Sesame Street. I will not vote for devastating layoffs at our local PBS and NPR stations or end the radio broadcasts that ensure all Marylanders can receive emergency alerts. I will not vote to decimate our global leadership and roll back efforts to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
Congress must reject this request.
