Well folks,

If you’re a subscriber, you might have noticed the importance we’ve placed on municipal elections these last few months. And some Democrats have asked why we've put so much emphasis on these races.

Well, this week, city officials are transforming our state.

Tulsa Mayor Monroe Nichols announced a $100 million trust partnered with the City of Tulsa as part of a reparations plan.

The Trust will help provide descendants of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre with access to scholarships, housing, and other measures that will rebuild generational wealth.

The Trust is also charged with making key investments in the Historic Greenwood District to reclaim the potential robbed from Black Wall Street by the Massacre.

104 years later, two living victims of the massacre saw their government commit to finally repairing, not just acknowledging, the damage done.

These races are nonpartisan, but the people who hold them aren’t.

You often hear that when Democrats hold power, they squander it. I’m here to say this new generation of Democrats is here for the fight.

This is the bench-building, power-building movement that we must propel and defend.

And Tulsa isn’t the only victory in this fight for Oklahoma.

We flipped the Norman mayoral seat; our progressive candidates ran on a winning platform of addressing rising housing costs and putting his constituents over donors and developers.

In Bethany, we made history by electing Oklahoma’s first-ever Latina Mayor.

These races aren’t sexy or noticed by many, but when Republicans are fighting each other over public bathrooms, Democrats are focused on mending potholes and improving our day-to-day lives.

That’s why I’m proud to call myself an Oklahoma Democrat. These wins that may seem small can lead to monumental change. And they give me hope that this movement we are building together isn’t just working, but that it's also worth all of the work.

With Defiance,

Lauren Craig
