When we talk about our bloated military budget we have to talk about the
National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The debate has begun on one of
the most important pieces of legislation Congress will consider all year.

*Tell your members of Congress to cut the military budget, and to advance
amendments for peace in the NDAA.

The NDAA is the bill that authorizes the wasteful spending we've been
campaigning against for years. The current military budget is $738 billion
dollars for 2020. That's well over half of the money that Congress
appropriates every year. This ridiculous level of military spending
deprives the country of much needed funds for healthcare, education,
housing, and the fight against climate change.

It's also one of the few pieces of legislation that our dysfunctional
Congress passes every year. This year's bill will be *the 60th NDAA passed
by Congress in a row*. Because it is guaranteed to get a vote, it provides
us with the chance to include progressive amendments, advancing peace
policies that we care deeply about. The House Armed Services Committee will
be negotiating the contents of this bill over the next two weeks, and then
the entire House will be able to vote on amendments to include.

*In short, this is when Congress needs to hear from you. Send them a
message now.

We're asking our legislators to:

- *Support a meaningful cut in military spending and oppose an NDAA that
increases the Pentagon's budget*
- *End militarization of the police, and get rid of the 1033 Program
which gives weapons of war to local police departments*
- *Stop the military from being used against protesters in the United
States*
- *Prevent unconstitutional war with Iran*
- *End arms sales to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates*
- *End all US participation in their brutal war in Yemen*

Arabia and the UAE, end our nation’s endless wars, and stop war with
Iran. I look forward to hearing why the representative does or does not
support these steps I feel are important.
