John,
Today, the Supreme Court refused to hear a new Second Amendment case. That’s right: the NRA won’t have chance to radically reinterpret gun regulations for the rest of the court’s cycle.
This is a HUGE win for public safety. But we have to keep up this momentum, now is not the time to ease our pressure on the NRA’s insidious influence.
Today’s decision comes on the heels of the Court’s April move to strike down another NRA-backed lawsuit that sought to roll back gun safety laws across the country; one that Brady activists and lawyers fought tooth and nail for. The NRA will keep their cases coming, and we’ll keep fighting.
John, we won against the NRA today, but there are more attacks on the horizon. We must maintain our momentum against threats to our nation’s safety. The Supreme Court will continue to feel pressure to adopt gun industry-backed arguments, arguments that would infringe on Americans' most fundamental right to live. This concerted effort has found sympathy with some Justices in the past and maintains support from the Conservative majority: two Justices dissented on today’s decision. Will you support Brady’s legal, advocacy, and organizing work to ensure we uphold our nation’s lifesaving gun laws?
