John, as we approach three years since the tragic Uvalde shooting, Texas lawmakers are pushing a bill that would make it easier for 18-year-olds to carry handguns — and mothers of the victims are speaking out.
“This kind of pain forever changes who you are. And now with proposals like this to lower the age to buy a handgun, [lawmakers] are putting more children at risk, and [they'll] make even more mothers fear for their children’s lives.”
— Gloria Cazares,
Mother of Uvalde Shooting Victim
The gunman that murdered 19 children and two teachers at Robb Elementary was 18 years old. He illegally obtained the weapons he used to wreak havoc on this community and instead of taking action to stop the next attack, lawmakers want to lower the legal age to carry a handgun.
We should be raising the age to carry deadly weapons — not lowering it. But dangerous bills like this aren’t just being introduced in Texas. They’re spreading across the country.
And now, the Trump administration is permitting the sale of forced-reset triggers (FRT), devices that allow for semi-automatic rifles to fire quicker. The effects of this decision are catastrophic and undoubtedly pave the way for more mass shootings. It’s up to all of us to fight back to protect our kids and stop the next tragedy.
Brady is fighting back to stop these deadly bills from becoming law while pushing for common-sense gun safety legislation to keep kids safe. And we’re counting on you to fight with us and the mothers of Uvalde victims. We're calling on 100 people from your area to add their names to our urgent petition before midnight. Sign on to tell Lawmakers: We need MORE restrictions on guns, not fewer.
