This week is National Women’s Health Week, an observance to raise awareness about the health issues that primarily affect women and encourage women of all ages to prioritize their health and wellness.

But for far too many women, an essential piece of their health—reproductive care—is being decided by politicians, not providers.

State legislatures are passing bans and restrictions on abortion care, leading to unnecessary deaths in some cases because a woman could not receive proper care.

Meanwhile, Congress and the White House are working in tandem to slash federal funding for essential health insurance programs and place new constraints on the services and providers covered under these programs, creating a financial burden on millions of people’s access to care.

This is all part of a vile strategy to control women’s bodies and our futures.

Right now, our activists are pushing to pass abortion rights ballot measures in more states, building on the seven state ballot measure fights we won on abortion rights in 2024. NOW advocates are continuing to rally bipartisan support for national legislation like the Women’s Health Protection Act, which would prohibit governmental restrictions on providing or accessing abortion services. And our teams are engaging in ambitious outreach efforts to galvanize support for pro-choice candidates at all levels of government who will fight to fully restore reproductive freedom.

These are lofty goals, but they’re achievable if the NOW community is all in on the fight.

John, there’s nothing more powerful than a woman having the ability to choose what’s best for her health, her body, and her future.
