Your Senators need to hear from you

Republicans are trying to eviscerate decades-old clean air standards and increase deadly transportation pollution.

If they succeed, it will mean all of us paying the price—with our health, economy, and future. Fight back by urging your senators to stop these attacks on life-saving clean air protections.

Hi—

Last week, the House of Representatives voted to roll back decades-old Clean Air Act standards (also known as the California waivers) that enable states to clean up the air we breathe and accelerate the transition to electric vehicles.

And House Republicans did it by hijacking the rule of law and setting a dangerous precedent that would give them unchecked power to dismantle other rules they don’t like.

If these heinous resolutions get greenlit by the Senate, it would mark the first time in the history of the Clean Air Act that Congress tried to take away states’ rights to set vehicle emissions standards that are stronger than what’s federally required.

As a result, we’d see dirtier air, higher prices at the pump, and more health problems in low-income communities and communities of color who live near busy thoroughfares where tailpipe pollution is prevalent.

We’re hearing that a vote could happen in the Senate as soon as next week, which means there’s still time to call out this petty political stunt and stop our lawmakers from poisoning our communities. Send a message right now urging your senators to save these lifesaving Clean Air Act standards. ([link removed])

TAKE ACTION ([link removed])

Transportation is the largest source of emissions in the country and a primary source of harmful air pollution, especially in historically disadvantaged communities that reside near major highways. That’s why it’s critical for states to lead on setting their own standards. Without state standards, cars and trucks could spew more than 1.6 billion metric tons of climate-harming pollution into the air—leading to more premature deaths, more childhood asthma cases, and more destruction and damage caused by climate-fueled disasters.

And as far as our wallets go, these state standards have been a game-changer for bringing more electric vehicles to the market, helping drivers cut climate pollution AND fuel costs.

Republicans love to talk about “states rights”—that is, until states stand up to fossil fuel interests. The reality is that these CRA resolutions are nothing but a bad faith attempt to protect corporate polluters at the expense of clean air and climate protections.

With a vote scheduled for next week, your Senators need to hear from you.

Tell them to oppose any attempt to roll back state vehicle standards that cut pollution, drive innovation, and protect public health. ([link removed])

Thanks for being a part of this fight,
