Transportation is the largest source of emissions in the country and a primary source of harmful air pollution, especially in historically disadvantaged communities that reside near major highways. That’s why it’s critical for states to lead on setting their own standards. Without state standards, cars and trucks could spew more than 1.6 billion metric tons of climate-harming pollution into the air—leading to more premature deaths, more childhood asthma cases, and more destruction and damage caused by climate-fueled disasters.
And as far as our wallets go, these state standards have been a game-changer for bringing more electric vehicles to the market, helping drivers cut climate pollution AND fuel costs.
Republicans love to talk about “states rights”—that is, until states stand up to fossil fuel interests. The reality is that these CRA resolutions are nothing but a bad faith attempt to protect corporate polluters at the expense of clean air and climate protections.
With a vote scheduled for next week, your Senators need to hear from you.
Tell them to oppose any attempt to roll back state vehicle standards that cut pollution, drive innovation, and protect public health.
