Hogs At The Trough šŸ–

<[link removed]>

It was a busy week in Washington, and fiscal insanity at the Department of
Defense was the most important thing on the table.

The Oversight Subcommittee on Government Operations held a hearing on how the
Pentagon is still failing to get its finances in order. How bad is it? Well,
these peoplehaven’t passed an audit
<[link removed]>
in eight dadgum years.

They can’t account for half a trillion
<[link removed]>
dollars. To put it into perspective, that’s the price of an aircraft carrier
floating off into thin air.

They aren’t just wasting taxpayer money, they’re putting our men and women in
uniform in danger with bloated budgets, broken systems, and worthless programs
that don’t make us any safer.

And here’s the worst part: The folks in Washington aren’t asleep at the
switch—they’re corrupt.

People in Congress on both sides of the aisle own stock in the defense
contractors
<[link removed]>
they're supposed to be holding accountable. And when I call them out, I make a
lot of powerful enemies.

But I didn’t come to D.C. to make friends. I came to serve the hardworking
people of East Tennessee—and they oughta know what’s going on.

The U.S. Marine Corps, the only branch to pass an audit
<[link removed]>, has
shown us this simple task can be done. All you need is a little leadership and
accountability.

Reckless, unchecked spending at the Pentagon isn’t just a money problem, it’s
a national security risk—and this has nothing to do with Democrats or
Republicans. It’s about taking our country back from the hogs at the trough.
They’re using taxpayer money with no shred of respect for it.

We’ve given them until 2028
<[link removed]>
to figure it out, and if you ask me, that’s more than enough time to get it
together. If we’re going to support our troops and strengthen our national
defense, we’ve got to bring fiscal sanity back to the Pentagon—and that starts
with demanding a clean audit.

We owe it to the taxpayer, and we owe it to every man and woman who wears the
uniform.

Time to clean up.

The Great Smoky Firefly Show ✨

If you’re a fan of the Smokies (one of Tennessee’s coolest spots), you already
know what time it is: synchronous firefly season.

For just a couple weeks, these little guys light up the night in sync as part
of their mating dance, and it’s one of the most amazing sights you’ll ever see.

I’m no bug expert, but the National Park Service says they do it so the
females can spot their own kind— not one of the dozens of other species of
fireflies living in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Want to see it for yourself? This year’s firefly show runs May 29-June 5, and
the lottery for viewing passes isopen now
