It was a busy week in Washington, and fiscal insanity at the Department of Defense was the most important thing on the table.
Â
The Oversight Subcommittee on Government Operations held a hearing on how the Pentagon is still failing to get its finances in order. How bad is it? Well, these people havenât passed an audit in eight dadgum years.
Â
They canât account for half a trillion dollars. To put it into perspective, thatâs the price of an aircraft carrier floating off into thin air.
Â
They arenât just wasting taxpayer money, theyâre putting our men and women in uniform in danger with bloated budgets, broken systems, and worthless programs that donât make us any safer.
Â
And hereâs the worst part: The folks in Washington arenât asleep at the switchâtheyâre corrupt.
Â
People in Congress on both sides of the aisle own stock in the defense contractors they're supposed to be holding accountable. And when I call them out, I make a lot of powerful enemies.
Â
But I didnât come to D.C. to make friends. I came to serve the hardworking people of East Tennesseeâand they oughta know whatâs going on.
Â
The U.S. Marine Corps, the only branch to pass an audit, has shown us this simple task can be done. All you need is a little leadership and accountability.
Â
Reckless, unchecked spending at the Pentagon isnât just a money problem, itâs a national security riskâand this has nothing to do with Democrats or Republicans. Itâs about taking our country back from the hogs at the trough. Theyâre using taxpayer money with no shred of respect for it.Â
Â
Weâve given them until 2028 to figure it out, and if you ask me, thatâs more than enough time to get it together. If weâre going to support our troops and strengthen our national defense, weâve got to bring fiscal sanity back to the Pentagonâand that starts with demanding a clean audit.
Â
We owe it to the taxpayer, and we owe it to every man and woman who wears the uniform.Â
Â
Time to clean up.Â
