Friend,

Earlier this week, the Trump administration’s Department of Justice (DOJ) abruptly terminated many Community Based Violence Intervention and Prevention Initiative (CVIPI) grants and funding. This decision undermines years of bipartisan work and progress in communities across the country that have borne the brunt of gun violence.

Brady is working in close collaboration with and taking guidance from our CVI partners — led by Community Justice (CJ) [[link removed]] , Cities United [[link removed]] , and The Health Alliance for Violence Intervention (HAVI) [[link removed]] — to better understand and evaluate the full scope and impact of these cuts.

This is a difficult time for many of our partners and allies whose work has been integral to preventing violence, saving lives, and promoting healing in Black and Brown communities. We are committed to supporting those who have been impacted, exploring all avenues, including policy, advocacy, communications, and legal support. We will follow the lead of these organizations and aid in convening others in the movement as we organize, strategize, and defend this essential, evidence-based life-saving work.

We know that community violence intervention strategies work — multiple cities have seen a 30-50% reduction in violence because of investment attributed to the scaling of CVI strategies.
We cannot let this rollback of community violence intervention funding happen quietly. [[link removed]] Please help us demand the reinstatement of CVI funding and continued investment in community-centered solutions to gun violence by getting loud on social media. [[link removed]] [[link removed]]

Another Shooting. Another NRA Convention

[link removed] [[link removed]]

Just one week after the shooting at Florida State University that claimed two lives and injured six more, the NRA held its annual convention in Atlanta, GA. This three-day event features exhibits like the “Wall of Guns” and a banquet auction filled with “food, firearms, and fundraising.”

It’s a stark and deeply unsettling contrast to the grief and fear communities across the country are feeling in the wake of yet another school shooting. Watching the gun industry and its top lobbyists push their “guns everywhere” agenda while opposing efforts to protect our communities from gun violence is offensive, but unfortunately, not surprising.

For decades, the NRA has been one of the most powerful lobbying groups in Washington. But it’s grip is slipping. Last year, Wayne LaPierre, once the head of the NRA, resigned ahead of a civil trial that found he had misused millions of donor dollars for private jets, luxury vacations, yacht rentals, and more. In turn, NRA membership plummeted, and this year, for the first time, high-profile speakers like President Trump are not attending the convention.

Brady has fought relentlessly against the NRA and to expose the big lie that guns make us safer. But as the NRA flounders, other gun groups continue to push the same deadly agenda, putting gun industry profits ahead of our safety and ahead of human lives.

To learn more about the NRA, its annual conference, and the rise of other gun industry titans, read Kris Brown’s newest piece, “The Convention Goes on. So Do Shootings.”

Honoring the Victims of Chabad at Poway

[link removed] [[link removed]]
Tomorrow marks six years since four people were shot at Chabad of Poway in California during a celebration of the last day of Passover. Lori Kaye was killed as she bravely protected her rabbi from this violent act of hate.

In the aftermath of this shooting, Brady Legal filed a lawsuit [[link removed]] on behalf of the victims and survivors against Smith & Wesson, the manufacturer and seller of the assault rifle used in the shooting. We allege that the company negligently and unlawfully designed and marketed the firearm and that San Diego Guns, the gun dealer that sold it, violated California law.

As we continue our fight for justice in 2025, our lawsuit aims to reform the reckless business practices of both the manufacturer and gun dealer to help ensure no other family or community must endure the pain and loss experienced in Poway.

Brady is committed to holding negligent and irresponsible members of the gun industry accountable, especially those who put profit over public safety. On behalf of the victims and survivors of this attack, we invite you to read more about their stories and our lawsuit. [[link removed]]

Watch Now: Organizing With Power: Youth Advocacy and Legislative Engagement in Texas

[link removed] [[link removed]]

Last week, Brady’s youth-led initiative, Team ENOUGH, joined our partners at Texas Gun Sense [[link removed]] and Students Engaged In Advancing Texas [[link removed]] (SEAT) for a training webinar and Texas legislative update.

The conversation, featuring Brady President Kris Brown, youth advocates, including Team ENOUGH Executive Council [[link removed]] Members Jasir Rahman and Ayaan Moledina, and Garrett Chase of Texas Gun Sense offered insights on how advocates can engage effectively with lawmakers and stay grounded in the face of tough conversations.
