Folks, my great-great-great-grandfather was a slave who finally gained his voting rights in 1867 after the Civil War.

But even though slavery ended, there were still many serious hurdles to overcome for Black Americans who wanted to vote, like literacy tests and poll taxes.

I know how difficult it has been to secure the freedom to vote, which is why I will fight tirelessly against the SAVE Act and any attempt to stop Americans from exercising that fundamental freedom.
