I can’t believe MAGA Republicans in the House just pushed through this dangerous bill:

That’s right, folks: Trump’s loyalists in Congress are trying to place unnecessary and extremely restrictive barriers on voting.

The SAVE Act would require people to go in person to an election office and prove their citizenship before they’re allowed to register to vote or update their information – and it will lead to devastating consequences on Americans’ ability to access the polls.

Folks, right now, Senate Democrats have the opportunity to block this extremist bill from becoming law – but it’s going to be tough. I am doing everything I can to keep voting rights protected, but I need your grassroots support today to help fuel my work. Folks, my great-great-great-grandfather was a slave who finally gained his voting rights in 1867 after the Civil War.

But even though slavery ended, there were still many serious hurdles to overcome for Black Americans who wanted to vote, like literacy tests and poll taxes.

I know how difficult it has been to secure the freedom to vote, which is why I will fight tirelessly against the SAVE Act and any attempt to stop Americans from exercising that fundamental freedom.
