The Minnesota Department of Revenue has many resources to help you file for deceased taxpayers.


* Guidance for filing final returns for a deceased client or family member:
* Individual Income Tax returns [ [link removed] ]
* Property Tax Refund returns [ [link removed] ]
* Credit for Military Service in a Combat Zone [ [link removed] ]

* If a client died during active service in the armed forces, they may qualify for tax relief. For details, visit our Tax Relief for Deceased Active-Duty Military page [ [link removed] ].
* If a client is claiming a refund on behalf of a deceased taxpayer, they must complete Form M23, Claim for a Refund for a Deceased Taxpayer [ [link removed] ].
* *New!* Beginning with tax year 2024, the rent credit for a deceased taxpayer may now be claimed by someone other than their spouse or dependent. This is valuable information to share with your clients.
