Dear John,

Naya hated fourth grade until she met Coach JT. Because of JT's support, everything changed for Naya. She learned lessons on the playground that transfer to the classroom and to life. “Never give up and do your best,” she explains. As a Junior Coach, she practices valuable skills, such as communication, problem solving, and teamwork as she plays and leads her peers at recess.

Play lays the groundwork for learning and growth both in and out of the classroom. In a 2023-24 Playworks survey <[link removed]>, 94% of educators agree that Playworks helps students develop the skills to succeed in their learning environment.

There are so many reasons we know play fuels academic
success <[link removed]>. Just as importantly, we know Playworks helps students like Naya experience joy and confidence. We even see it in the feedback we receive from our young and powerful student leaders. Naya wrote to Coach JT:

Play on,

PLAYWORKS FOR. . .
KIDS
Students Become Leaders

We build play into leadership through the Playworks Junior Coach Leadership Program. In the last school year, more than 5,100 students have participated in at least 18 hours of training and 20 hours of hands-on leadership experience. With the support of caring adults, these students are bettering themselves and their communities. Junior Coaches report positive changes in self-change, including a connection to their school. "I care about my school community."

SCHOOLS
Play Can Happen Anywhere
School buildings, playgrounds, and geographic climate can vary widely across the country. Play is essential for students in all schools and out of school time. Playworks has made it possible for schools to bring the joy and benefits of play to whatever types of spaces schools or community-based organizations have available--maximizing fun.

OUR SHARED FUTURE
Certificated Recess Providers
Two years ago, community-based organizations (CBOs) across the country began a journey to bring the Playworks-inspired programming to their schools. We’ve opened up our playbook, teaching these CBOs to implement recess and leadership programs in their communities. In just a few short months, these Playworks TagTeam partners will be officially certified and running recess programs solo in their schools.
