There’s an education crisis in rural America, and we don’t talk about it enough.
* Literacy rates are declining in some communities, with nearly 70% of U.S. third graders unable to read proficiently.
* 4.5 million rural children don’t have access to after-school programs, and 2.9 million miss out on summer programs.
* Just 20% of rural adults have a bachelor’s degree, limiting their job opportunities and income potential.
Despite the facts, federal support for rural schools is facing uncertainty – when clearly, we should be PROTECTING it.
