It's one of the most commonly prescribed medications in the country, and yet, thanks to the bureaucratic mess, access to this essential drug is at risk. But now, a bipartisan group of lawmakers is stepping up to fix the problem before it spirals out of control. Congressman Andrew Garbarino (R-Bayport), along with Representatives Tom Suozzi (D-Glen Cove), and Diana Harshbarger (R-TN-01) have reintroduced the Ensuring Access to Essential Drugs Act, a straightforward bill aimed at protecting access to vital medications while ensuring American manufacturers aren’t crushed under unnecessary regulations. 'This legislation puts patients first by ensuring the affordability and accessibility of widely used medications,' said Garbarino. 'It also reinforces our support for small businesses and American manufacturing, ensuring that U.S. companies remain competitive and resilient in the global market and ensuring that small, family-owned companies like Long Island's Jerome Stevens Pharmaceuticals can continue their vital work. WHAT'S NEW IN NY-02 Celebrating St. Patrick's Day Andrew joined the Bayport Blue Point 33rd Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade led by Grand Marshals Wendy and Craig Clare. It was a great day to honor Irish-American heritage and spend time with neighbors and local families. Andrew is proud to represent a district with such rich Irish-American heritage and was glad for the opportunity to celebrate the many ways this community strengthens Long Island. Recognizing East Moriches Eagle Scout Daniel Singleton, a senior at William Floyd High School and a member of East Moriches Scout Troop 29, recently achieved the rank of Eagle Scout—the highest honor in Boy Scouts of America. As part of earning this distinction, Daniel designed and built a Pollinator Hotel at Wertheim National Wildlife Refuge to support native bee populations and promote a healthy ecosystem. His project highlights the importance of pollinators in maintaining biodiversity and protecting our environment. In recognition of his outstanding achievement, Andrew provided Daniel with a Congressional Certificate of Recognition. Congratulations Daniel! CASEWORK HIGHLIGHT: Helping Gold Star Family After nearly two years without a response, a Gold Star mother contacted Andrew’s office for assistance with her request to be buried with her son, a U.S. Army soldier killed in action in Iraq. Andrew’s casework team worked directly with the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the request for interment has now been approved. Andrew is committed to supporting Gold Star families and ensuring they receive the dignity, respect, and recognition they deserve. Andrew knows how frustrating dealing with bureaucracy can be. That is why he has an entire team dedicated to helping constituents get what they need from the government. If you need help dealing with a federal agency, contact our office and our team will get to work on your case. KEEPING UP WITH CONGRESS Andrew Stands With Workers This week, Andrew helped introduce the bipartisan Tools Tax Deduction Act to help skilled workers afford the equipment they need to do their jobs. The bill allows employees—like apprentices and construction workers—to deduct the cost of tools, protective gear, and other necessary job-related expenses. “Skilled workers are the backbone of our economy,” Andrew said in a statement. “This bill puts money back in their pockets and ensures they aren’t penalized for investing in their own success." The legislation is part of Andrew’s ongoing work to support Long Island’s workforce. Learn more here. Honoring America’s Firefighters Andrew recently introduced the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Coin Act, a bipartisan bill to honor the service and sacrifice of firefighters throughout our nation’s history. The legislation directs the U.S. Treasury to mint commemorative coins in 2026, with proceeds supporting the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. “Firefighters put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities, and far too many have made the ultimate sacrifice,” Andrew said in a statement. “This coin will serve as a lasting tribute and raise critical funds for survivor families and memorial programs.” Andrew will always stand with our firefighters and first responders.
