This Saturday is World Water Day, an international celebration of water, yet millions of families in the U.S. are still exposed to lead in their water every single day.

And now, Republicans in Congress are aiming to repeal a rule that would require all lead service lines in most communities to be replaced over the next decade.

It doesn’t matter what party you belong to – it is unacceptable to allow kids to be exposed to lead in their water.

Send a message to your Representative to demand that they reject HJ. Res. 44 and any resolution to repeal the Lead Out of Water Rule!

Keep Lead Out of Water!

There is no safe level of lead in drinking water — it’s especially dangerous for children — and yet, water for millions of Americans is currently being poisoned due to old and outdated lead service lines.

Under the Biden Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) adopted the historic Lead Out of Water Rule (called the Lead and Copper Rule Improvements) that requires the replacement of lead service lines in most communities over the next decade — protecting millions of families from lead exposure through their drinking water.

Despite this critical, commonsense measure, Republicans in Congress have proposed to repeal the Lead Out of Water Rule and keep poisoning families with lead from their water.

But — with a razor-thin majority in the House of Representatives, and just 50 days remaining to pass it through both chambers of Congress — we can stop this from happening.

In the last two months, Food & Water Watch members have sent over 35,000 messages to Congress in support of the Lead Out of Water Rule. We’ve also held rallies in nine key congressional districts across the country and gained media coverage in dozens of publications.

Since taking office, the Musk-Trump regime has taken a hacksaw to basic protections. They are allowing corporations to pollute our water, canceling critical federal support for clean water projects, and ultimately forcing families to pay higher bills for less safe water. This is an attack on clean water — all in the name of more profit for billionaires.

Instead of tax cuts for billionaires and huge corporations, we need our representatives in Congress to prioritize safe water for all — and to start by rejecting attempts to slow the progress of removing lead water pipes across the country.

We know that if we raise enough public outrage, we can stop this resolution and protect children and families across the country.
