There is no safe level of lead in drinking water — it’s especially dangerous for children — and yet, water for millions of Americans is currently being poisoned due to old and outdated lead service lines. Under the Biden Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) adopted the historic Lead Out of Water Rule (called the Lead and Copper Rule Improvements) that requires the replacement of lead service lines in most communities over the next decade — protecting millions of families from lead exposure through their drinking water. Despite this critical, commonsense measure, Republicans in Congress have proposed to repeal the Lead Out of Water Rule and keep poisoning families with lead from their water. But — with a razor-thin majority in the House of Representatives, and just 50 days remaining to pass it through both chambers of Congress — we can stop this from happening. In the last two months, Food & Water Watch members have sent over 35,000 messages to Congress in support of the Lead Out of Water Rule. We’ve also held rallies in nine key congressional districts across the country and gained media coverage in dozens of publications. With your continued partnership and action, we can win this fight. Your Representative needs to hear from you! Send your message to reject H.J. Res 44 and any similar measure to protect the Lead Out of Water Rule!
