Medicaid is a lifeline for more than 70 million Americans.
Friend,
Medicaid is a lifeline for more than 70 million Americans. So, why did Republicans just put it on the chopping block?
Earlier this month, House Republicans passed a budget resolution that would cut $880 billion from the committee that oversees Medicaid over the next 10 years. But the savings from these cuts won’t be passed on to people like us — House Republicans’ budget would funnel the cash straight to tax cuts for billionaires and corporations.
Nearly 42 million people of color rely on Medicaid to access health care, and more than half of Medicaid beneficiaries are children, people with disabilities, or older adults. These disastrous cuts would drive up medical debt and worsen health outcomes for everyone. Contact your legislators NOW and urge them to oppose brutal cuts to Medicaid.
TAKE ACTION
If the House’s proposed cuts remain, then this could be, by far, the largest Medicaid cut ever enacted. Eliminating $880 billion of the federal government’s Medicaid investments would be the equivalent of:
Taking health care away from 31 million children, the total covered by Medicaid;
Terminating coverage for all adults age 65 and older who use Medicaid to obtain essential health care; or
Ending more than 75% of all Medicaid funding for nursing home services or home and community-based care for older adults and people with disabilities.
To put it simply, the proposed cuts demand that millions of people will suffer without access to the health care they need, while enriching the ultra-wealthy and doing nothing to reduce the national deficit. The consequences of these reckless cuts will be felt in every community across our nation — hardworking families will struggle more than they already do to simply see a doctor, stay out of medical debt and keep food on the table.
We need your help to protect Medicaid and those it serves. Contact your legislators NOW and urge them to oppose cuts to Medicaid and ensure essential health care services are fully funded.
